Wage Hike 2011: After  Senator Ramon “Bong” Revillia Jr. pass the Senate Bill No. 1981 that challenged all employers in the private sector to increase P125 on the salary of their employees because of the rapid increase of the “Cost of Living” not only in the Metro but also in the provinces, the Department of Labor (DOLE) will be announcing the possible new wage hike by May 9 this year.

This is good news for the employees who are only receiving the minimum or below the minimum daily wage prescribed by the Department of Labor and Employment. This announcement will be coming from DOLE after the deliberation on the wage by the National Wage and Productivity Commission that will end on May 2.

Petitions under deliberation are a P75 increase in the current P404 minimum wage for workers in Metro Manila, while a P100 increase was proposed for Regions 7 and 10.

Based on the initial report of the Department of Labor, there will be no wage hike (increase) on May 1 as the nation is celebrating the Labor Day. However, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will also have “Discount Caravan” which will roll out the basic commodities like rice and food price low.
