What is Clear Liquid Diet? Clear Liquid Diet is a diet that allows food that have no or low residue and fat. This diet must not be given to more than two days because it is nutritionally inadequate, unless prescribed by the doctor, you may continue giving this diet to the patient. Food supplement is also recommended.
This is the diet when you want to prevent dehydration or to clear gastrointestinal tract.
Take note that this diet is only given to the patient to prevent dehydration and to help increase calorie intake. Allow feeding every two to three hours. Drink a variety of clear liquids such as clear or strained juice, jello and fat-free broth. You may also add salt or sugar to clear liquid to increase electrolytes and or calorie.
