Before proceeding into the discussion on the diet for constipation, let us define first what constipation is.
Constipation is caused by many factors including taking in some medication such as pain reliever, sedatives and antidepressants; eating mostly soft or liquid food which are low in fiber, and or lessen physical activities.
This diet is highly recommended for loose bowel movement because this diet is a combination of low-residue, low-fiber, and low fat diet. There are some thing a patient should consider such as restriction in fat because fat lubricates and it may cause more loose bowel movement. Food high in fiber is also be avoided as fiber helps stool soft and watery.
Below are some tips to prevent or help ease your constipation:
- Eat low-cellulose vegetable. You must avoid fatty meat.
- Avoid leafy vegetable and high-fiber fruits temporarily as they make your stool soft and watery.
- Eat more bananas, apples, and star apples to make your stool firm and hard.
- Eat small but frequent meals.
- Drink more liquid, boil water before drinking.
- You may also drink stained juice or fat-free broths as desired.
- Add salt and sugar in your diet.
- Avoid milk for at least two (2) days.
- Change from constipating diet to regular diet gradually.
