The passing of the Philippines King of Comedy was confirmed by Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla at around 9 PM.  The corps is still in the Makati Medical Center as of writing and the wake is yet to be announced.

Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., Dolphy has just passed away. The whole Philippine show business industry is mourning for his death. Dolphy was regarded the only “King of Comedy” of the Philippines showbiz because of his comedic talent which no one has ever made.

Dolphy was born on July 25, 1928 in Tondo Manila and at the age of 83, he died on July 10, 2012 at exactly 8:34 PM.

Dolphy’s life is full of ups and downs. It is unknown to all that before he became showbiz icon, he did odd jobs such as shining shoes; button-attacher at pants factory, bottle arranger, stevedore at the pier, trading, horse and buggy driver. His comedic talent was developed because of his passion on watching stage shows at the Life Theater and Avenue Theater. He learned a lot from his comedy idol: Robin “the fatty” Geronimo, and Benny Mack and Bayani Casimiro for dance.

At the age of 16 (turning 17), Dolphy started to perform on stage during Japanese occupation of the Philippines. It was Benny Mack who got him to perform as a chorus dancer. He had a lot of theater performances where his talent was interlaced that finally gave him the Comedy King title.

It was in 2009 when Dolphy was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and on June 12, 2012, he was admitted at the Makati Medical Center. Almost one month of staying in the hospital, he finally gave up.

Dolphy had 17 biological children but has never been married. Dolphy had relationship with six ladies who gave him 17 offsprings. The latest is Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla whom he has been with for more than 20 years.

In his showbiz life, he received a lot of awards and recognition for his outstanding performance in the industry. The latest is Gawad na Diwa ng Lahi, which is the highest honor given by the government of Manila to artists. This award was given in 2012.
