To add this manual at a very easy way, just follow the steps below.Here are the steps to solve it in an easy way without using a calculator or any calculating machine:
Steps:
1. Choose any two counting numbers or signed numbers (the start and the last numbers) such as 2 and 85.
Say, you want to get the sum of the numbers from 2 until 85. Doing this manually is not easy. It takes time to get the sum, but with this trick, you can get the sum of these numbers in second or two. Continue on step 2.
2. Add the numbers that you chose. I give you two illustration:
I want to get the sum of all numbers from 2 until 85 and 4 until 84.
Scene 1: 85 + 2 = 87 sum
Scene 2: 84 + 4 = 88 sum
3. Subtract the smaller number from the larger number then add 1 to the difference.
Scene 1: 85 – 2 = 83
83 + 1 = 84 sum
Scene 2: 84 – 4 = 80
81 + 1 = 81 sum
4. If the result in step 2 is even, take out the half of it and multiply it to the sum in step 3 else if the result in step 2 is odd multiply it with the half of the result in step 3.
Scene 1: step 2 result is 87; step 3 result is 84. Take out the half of 84 and multiply it with 87. (42 is the half of 84).
42 X 87 = 3,654
The sum of all numbers from 2 until 85 is 3, 654.
2 + 3 + 4 . . . + 83 + 84 + 85 = 3, 654
Scene 2: step 2 result is 88; step 3 result is 81. Take out the half of 88 and multiply it with 81. (44 is the half of 88).
44 X 81 = 3,564
The sum of all numbers from 4 until 84 is 3, 564.
4 + 5 + 6 . . . + 82 + 83 + 84 = 3, 564
