Look! Manuel Marquez’s cake with figures of himself and the KO Manny Pacquiao. At the age of 43, Juan Manuel Marquez announced that it is time for him to hang his boxing gloves on the wall. Mexico’s greatest boxer of all time announced his retirement on ESPN Deportes TV show a Golpe on August 4, Friday. Marquez’s announcement shocked the boxing world as “Dinamita” was still pursuing one last bout.
“Today is a special and sad day for me because I’m announcing my retirement. The injuries pushed me to make this decision. It hurts, but I believe the right moment to put an end to my career has arrived,” Marquez said.
Marquez fought and defeated some of the best boxers in three different classes. He did share the ring with Timothy Bradley, Floyd Mayweather, Joel Casamayor, Marco Antonio Barrera, Orlando Salido, Chris John, Juan Diaz twice and Manny Pacquiao four times. Upon retirement, he leaves the sport with a record of 56-7-1 and 40 KOs.
In May 2014, the Mexican boxer defeated the former world champion Mike Alvarado and that was his last fight.
Boxing fans will surely remember Marquez because of his epic fight with the “People’s Champ” of the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao. The two champs dueled for the belt four times and it was only at the 4th fight when Manuel Marquez surprisingly hit the Filipino champ with his right hand. The boxing world was so shocked at his move that he knocked out Pacquiao just seconds before the sixth round ended.

Marquez’s victory over Manny Pacquiao in August 2012 must be very memorable to him that he even have his retirement cake with their figures.
Boxinghype posted in Instagram a picture of the Mexican legend with his retirement cake. The cake looks like a boxing ring with two boxer-figurines. The one standing was himself and the other figurine is Manny Pacquiao depicting his knocked-out state on their last fight in 2012.
