Legislators to Support Same-Sex Marriage in the Philippines-Risa Hontiveros

LGBT Community

Manila, Philippines–The issue on the same-sex marriage is again on the front as the country’s Philippine LGBT community is celebrating pride month. It’s almost a year now since Duterte took office but failed to do his promise most especially in the side of LGBT community according to one senator.

Senator Risa Hontiveros recalled Duterte’s campaign promise to help push the rights of the Gays, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgenders in the Philippines. Hontiveros pointed out Duterte’s speech during his visit in the Filipino community in Myanmmar last March backing out his promise.

Hontiveros joined the recent pride march in the country to show her sentiments to the LGBT people.

“The macho politics of Duterte have failed LGBT hopes. While he paraded himself as an ally during the campaign season, promising same-sex marriage in the Philippines, he turned back on his promise not one year in his term,”

Recall that also one legislator, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, give his support to push the gay marriages in the Philippines in October last year.

Call for equal rights

Joining with Hontiveros is the vice-president who also express her sentiments towards the equal rights of every Filipino people. Both Hontiveros and Robredo are advocating human rights most pushing the anti-discrimination bill.

“(The numbers) represent a deadly and irrational prejudice against those who do not conform to the traditional notion of sexual identity and orientation and a deep-seated hate that we refuse to acknowledge and address,”

In her Facebook page, Robredo give this message:

“Patuloy nating tutukan ang pagsulong sa karapatan ng LGBT laban sa lahat ng uri ng diskriminasyon at karahasang nakikita pa rin natin sa ating kapaligiran,”

Oppositions perspectives on same-sex marriage

Despite support of the same-sex marriage from different groups advocating human and equal rights of the LGBT+ community, there are still who oppose to this bill. Philippines as a Christian country, many believe that this bill is not inline with the principles of the Bible where only man and woman can get married. Many still holds to the true rule of a man and a woman in the marriage and consider gay-marriage as absurd and against the law of  God.

The key principle that many still hold on regarding marriage is the Genesis 1:27-28 when God created man and woman to multiple and fill the Earth. Also Genesis 2:24 explains what a marriage is:

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh (KJV)

“God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” as many quote. If the same-sex marriage becomes legal in the Philippines, it will stir up an alarm to many Bible believers but this also fulfills what God has said in the Bible that as the days of Noah and in the days of Lot so it will be when Jesus comes for the second time.

If we recall the story in the Bible during the time of Lot, God sent fire and brimstone to consume Sodom and Gomorrah because of the wickedness of the people in those cities and if we dig more on what kind of sins they had, it includes the sins LGBT.

We are not to condemn the LGBT community but we are here try to help them by the grace of God they will realize to come to God while there is still time. God loves the sinners but hates the sins.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. -John 3:16

We pray that God will guide every people in the Philippines now and in the coming days.
