Taking Google two (2) steps account verification or not; a Lesson to learn.

Google is increasing security features in its email and other services to protect its clients and users from unauthorized access to their individual accounts.

Since I am a Google apps fan and Gmail user for a long time already, I discovered that adding security features in my Gmail account would give me confident that my inbox is secured from unauthorized access. I am referring to the two (2) steps verifications using mobile phone.

Putting extra security to your Gmail account however would give you another inconvenience most especially if the phone you used in the verification step is lostLost: The Complete Series Boxset. Read more ... ยป or not working anymore just like in my case.

I have more than one (1) Gmail account and I completed the verification method to secure my accounts thinking that it would be nice but lately, I got a problem with one of my accounts. This happens because I used my postpaid mobile phone on the process and since my mobile number is no longer active, I could not receive the verification code to my phone. I also have the problem because I was not able to get a backup copy of the verification codes which is the alternative way to restore my account.

I just want to share a lesson to those who want to use the Google two (2) steps verification method to avoid future problems.

  1. Never use postpaid mobile number to verify your Google account. Using postpaid mobile number would give you future problem most especially if your mobile account is deactivated or become inactive.
  2. Get Backup Copy of verification codes. Exercise to always get a backup copy of the verification code so that you will be able to restore your account when problems come. On the verification process, you will be given an option to save or get a copy of the verification codes for future use; copy or save it in a secure area.
  3. Add backup mobile number to be used as secondary number to receive verification code. This is the alternative number to receive verification code.

Recovering your Gmail account takes 3-5 days and if you badly need to open your inbox, it is quite long to wait 3 or 5 days. There is no assurance that your account will be restored after 3 or 5 days so better to have precautions before this happens to you.
